Airgent Skin Remodelling:

Airgent is a novel skin remodelling system that has been used in Europe since 2007 and was approved by Health Canada in 2008. Airgent treatments improve the appearance of scars, wrinkles and sagging of the skin.

Airgent is a novel skin remodelling system that has been used in Europe since 2007 now offered at Tay River Reflections in Perth OntarioThe treatment involves introduction of droplets of hyaluronic acid into the skin under high pressure generated by a computer driven pneumatic system. The pressure wave generated by the droplets as they spread through the dermis stimulates the body’s natural healing process which induces new collagen and elastin production by fibroblasts. There is some minimal discomfort that may be experienced by the procedure which can be minimized by applying topical anesthetic prior to the treatment. After the procedure there are some minor superficial skin puncture wounds that are treated with pressure and the application of topical antibiotic ointment. There is red discolouration of the skin at the puncture sites for 3 to 7 days after the treatment and there may also be some swelling, occasional bruising and mild tenderness for a few days following treatment. It is important to avoid the sun for a few days after treatment to avoid skin discolouration.

The effect of each treatment is not fully apparent for at least 3 months as it takes time for the fibroblastic action to be completed.

A total of 3 or 4 treatments to a given area of the skin are recommended, ideally one month apart to achieve maximal effect.

Relative contraindications to undergoing Airgent treatments include pregnancy, uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune disorders, chronic liver or kidney disease, contagious diseases such as HIV or hepatitis etc. Chronic use of blood thinners, immunosuppressive drugs, steroids or accutane may also be an issue, along with known clotting disorders, known or potential related allergies or hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, history of keloid formation of hypertrophic scarring, permanent tattooing or history of herpes outbreaks in the area to be treated.
